¡Hola! Rudy here, I'm the director of the EDITH Foundation. 

​

Let me tell you briefly the incredible thing about our job!

 

I'm a cognitive neuroscientist specialized in learning  (among other things) and all of adult life I've done research in memory and cognition at the University of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children in Canada and now here at the EDITH Foundation. You can take a look at some of my research in Nature Magazine. 

 

Here at the EDITH foundation, we are an incredibly happy story, but like all the best narratives, we've had a really tough beginning. All of this has helped shape our curricula, science, art and philosophy with a strong sense of conflict resolution tools, resiliency, and even what we think about the meaning of life.

My mom Edith Mera Sicardo was the founder of a school called Baby Time Coyoacán, and when she passed away I took over thinking we'd be shutting down at the end of that school year. Little did I know the spectacle that is working with children, teaching these little people the very best I thought the world could offer us a species, why I thought stars and planets were mesmerizing, why I love Motown music, why carnivorous plants are incredible, and why school learning should be an experience... many of these interests nurtured by my very own mom. All these combined to my years of memory research made me realize that doing this was so organically impossible and comfortable, but it was not as easy as it seemed.

Our vision to redesigned the school was unheard of and ironically not very similar to what my mom practiced. It was really, really difficult and at times we were barely breaking even with no more than a few hundred dollars as utility. It was not enough to be economically sustainable. When I was about to give up I met Prof. Laura Jewett, the director of the doctoral program in Curriculum Studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande. I met her at Mexican President Vicente Fox' ranch to add to the adventure. Prof. Jewett was the ignition that helped me find value in what I was trying to accomplish, she was so energetically enthusiastic about it and we will be forever grateful to her... and the rest is history.

With all this, we do know what resiliency means, we know what's needed to build character and stay afloat. We know that life comes with a chance of rain, and we need to learn not only to be happy and ok with it, but also to solve the unexpected adventure that life is.

​

Intelligence is not a number, and definitely not a standardized test. For us, intelligence is equilibrium. It's what helps us live the most incredible, exciting and happy version of our lives that we can. Intelligence is what makes us stick out our tongue to taste the rain when we don't have an umbrella.

​

Intelligence is what turns the shortness of life into a poem and not just a moment.

​

Considering this, education in early life stages is not only the quintessential learning phase, it's also where we get to realize about the beauty of life. This is the life stage where we get to discover dinosaurs, savour the awe of a flying plane across the sky, understand how a spider traps a fly, be confused about those holes on the moon, and move our head to the rhythm of our favourite song. We do know how incredibly important this life stage is for our kids. 

​

We are passionate and committed to offer an amazing learning experience. Everything we do comes from our heart to continue what my mom started, and also comes from the surface of our brain to innovate and solve education that has not been solved before.

 

We are a story of success, and we are experts at making our dreams come true. Let us teach that to your child!
